Does your home or renter insurance cover sudden and accidental water damage? This is not like flood insurance, as flood insurance doesn't cover busted pipes. We are looking for busted pipe coverage.

Food spoilage, if the electricity goes out will your insurance cover the cost of food in your refrigerator? 

• Wrap outdoor and indoor pipes that are in unheated areas.
• Remove water hoses and cover faucets with a sock sleeve.
• Turn off and drain your sprinklers.
• Drain the gas in your lawn equipment and store in garage or a shed.
• Leave the heat on in your house if you leave before the freeze.

• Leave the cabinets open under the sink to get warm air flow.
• Turn your water off at the shut-off valve if your pipes freeze.
• Let your faucets drip during the night to keep the water flowing.
